Finally, designing again
to Lex Pott’s windowOur wood has been stored at Bijzondere Meubels in Hollandsche Rading, where it can dry for a couple of weeks before furniture maker Theo van den Bergh will help us with some last preparations. After weeks of examining trees, cutting, sawing and driving around with our material, I now have some time to spend in the studio and design our final objects.
The sand blasted wood, with its open structure and visible annual rings, is the starting point of all our designs. With that as a base, we are now looking for ways to combine the organic, irregular patterns of the material with strong geometrical shapes. Emphasizing the distinction between nature and man made forms is what we aim for with these objects – an outspoken contrast between the decisions I make as a designer and the characteristics of the material I do not have control over.
