During The Design Circle at Kunstkapel Amsterdam we will present the works of David Derksen and Rogier Arents.

Both designers make use of the same visual grammar: the raster and the moiré effect that appears with movement. In the Moiré Jewelry and Lights by David Derksen new patterns arise by motion. However, in the ‘A Sequence of Operations’ screen prints by Rogier Arents the images contain an optical vibration.

The projects of both designers are visually similar, but they have different starting points; Derksen is inspired by natural phenomena, whereas Arents is led by mathematics.

Designer Rogier Arents just finished his ‘A Sequence of Operations’ project. We’re happy to announce that we can show you the end results next week at the gallery of SBK Breda.

Earlier this year we initiated ‘One Window #1’, a project for which three different artists were invited to develop new works, all starting with the same tool: one screen printing frame, measuring 140×100cm. The participants: Aliki van der Kruijs, Kok Pistolet and Rogier Arents.

Rogier Arents’ contribution to ‘One Window #1’ is a series of prints entitled ‘A Sequence of Operations’. He applied the principles of the digital algorithm onto the analogue screen printing technique, resulting in a series of 50 unique silk screen prints inspired by the use of colour halftoning in screen printing and computer generated images using algorithms.

Today I had an interview with Ellen Walthuis at Amsterdam FM about New Window and the One Window #1 project.
